MONTGOMERY
Our itinerary took us to Montgomery, AL. The class spent only one night in Montgomery, but we still had a meaningful time there. We visited the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church and the parsonage, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and other Civil Rights leaders organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It was powerful standing where King stood. We also saw the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, the Legacy Museum, and the Montgomery Civil Rights Memorial Center. The Memorial for Peace and Justice was emotional for us because we walked under thousands of names of deceased people who met their ends at the ugly hands of lynching. The Civil Rights Center was meaningful, too: we all signed a digital wall saying that we would do our part in pushing for full equality.
