JASPER
Jasper is a student at the Telluride Mountain School in Telluride, CO. He has just returned from a trip to the south where he visited Georgia and Alabama to learn more about the Civil Rights movement. He visited museums and historical sites like the 16th Street Baptist Church, MLK's home, and the Edmund Pettus Bridge, which inspired him to write about how demonstrators could overcome law enforcement peacefully to gain equality. Jasper was able to meet people who walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge as well as people who were part of the freedom rides movement, which gave him first-hand knowledge of their life stories. This left him feeling eager to write and share what he had learned with his community.
