After a long day in Atlanta and an amazing bike tour, we stopped by the sanctuary of Coretta Scott King and Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. This moment was captured while I was standing by the eternal flame in front of their tomb at the end of the day, before driving to Montgomery the next morning to continue the two-week experiential education trip in the Deep South learning about the Civil Rights movement.
I took this photo right after our bike tour when we went to visit Coretta Scott King and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s tombs. I centered the flame below the tomb to show the eternal flame always lit in remembrance of Dr. King and other activists who put their lives on the line for their country. Furthermore, in my editing, I edited the sky's brightness so the day is a bright sunny afternoon to bring the mood up, and I lowered the sharpness of the fire to show more detail of the rest of the image. Even though I made edits to bring more color and make things stand out better, this era was a sad and cruel part of American history. However, the losses and changes in life that these people made created a more equal and peaceful America for everyone. That is why I liked how the Telluride Mountain School took time to travel and adventure with me in historic landmarks, remembering the makers of the modern US and teaching their students, like me, to think outside the box.
