THE FIRE
By Ellery
They always have a reason,
A reason for war,
And a reason for killing.
A reason for hatred and segregation.
However, it’s in the core.
The core of our hearts,
Engraved in our minds.
We want to be taller than those who are small.
Richer than those who are poor.
Stronger than those who are weak.
But when those who have been put down stand, our pride begins to falter.
They point out the flaws on which we stand.
How each man is "created equal,"
Yet still can't live freely under the same sky.
Respect your elders,
For they are who teach you.
They teach you to have reasons.
Reasons that put out,
And reignite the fire.
